Why girls?
Many girls around the world are being denied an education globally. 1/5 girls don't go to school because of poverty, early child marriage, and certain religious beliefs. In many parts of the world, girls are less likely to enroll than boys. Of an estimated 101 million children not in school, more than half are girls. They are being denied their basic human right to education, Some girls live in areas where there are no schools, the enrollment fees are cost-prohibitive, or they are being forced into early marriage. In some cases, when parents can only afford to send one child to school, sons are favored over daughters. In other cases, girls are routinely discriminated against—denied an education due to their gender.
But why should we educate girls? One reason would be for a future of educated generations. An African proverb once said, “If we educate a boy, we educate one person. If we educate a girl, we educate a family – and a whole nation.” Decreased population explosion is another reason why we should educate a girl. Educated women tend to have fewer (and healthier) babies. A 2000 study in Brazil found that literate women had an average of 2.5 children while illiterate women had an average of six children. Educating a girl also means decrease support for militancy which means girls are less likely to join terrorism groups for example, the Taliban. What do you think about the topic? Is it really fair that girls don't get a basic right to education for just these reasons? Look how they can benefit basically everyone.
